Podskalí Customs House at Výtoň

Learn about the history of the Vltava River on a VIP guided tour and walk through Podskalí.

The Podskalí Customs House at Výtoň dates back to around 1500. Next to the early Baroque parish church of St. Cosmas and Damian, it is the last surviving remnant of the original fishing village of Podskalí. The exhibition on the first floor of the customs house shows the transformation of the area at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and also presents the phenomenon of timber sailing, which was added to the UNESCO Intangible Heritage List in 2022.

VIP walk through the Podskalí

Did you know that Podskalí, the area under the rock with today's Emmaus Monastery, has always been strongly associated with water? The local inhabitants made their living by floating and selling wood, extracting ice and sand from the river, and also by fishing and selling fish. Every twelfth log floated down the river was extracted from the rafts in the area of the Podskalí Customs House as a tax, hence the name Výtoň. Find out more about the area on a VIP guided tour of the Podskalí.
