Prague – Vienna: Connections
We present a contemporary Prague perspective on the history and development of the relationship between two significant European metropolises, from the earliest times to the present day. The journey of Prague and Vienna through history is illustrated by three-dimensional models, interactive projections, and selected historical documents, maps, plans, and artworks. Visitors will trace the path from the first connection of both cities under the rule of the Czech king Přemysl Otakar II, through the phases of Prague's dominance under Emperors Charles IV and Rudolf II, and conversely, Prague's slowed development in the shadow of Vienna’s dazzling rise as the principal and residential city of the Habsburg monarchy. A separate chapter is dedicated to the modernization of both metropolises in the 20th and 21st centuries, culminating in the concept of transitioning from quantitative growth to ideas of a healthy and sustainable environment, up to the threshold of 21st-century "smart cities."
Free admission to the exhibition for paying visitors of the historical tour of the Clam-Gallas Palace's upper floor.
The exhibition is held under the patronage of the City of Prague and takes place as part of the Czech-Austrian cultural celebrations.
